Description It makes perfect sense that bile would be a great stain remover. The Gall bladder function in any mammal is to break down fats. It’s a superb nature created solvent. The reputation and effectiveness of traditional boerseep needs little to no explanation. Rub bar of soap on wet clothing stains and allow to stand for 20 to 30 minutes before washing by hand or in the washing machine. Stubborn stains may require more time and overnight soaking.. MYTHS, STORIES & INSPIRATION Gall soap is, according to everyone who has used it, one of the best stain removers of oil, blood, grass, ink et al…. The soaps story lies deep in traditional boere seep dating back to Voortrekker days and likely even way before that. The hard Ox fat that surrounds the kidneys was used and lye made from ashes from their fires and was all boiled in cauldrons. The old tannies discovered that by adding gall (bile) from the slaughtered animal, it was a very effective stain remover that could wash even their most delicate Sunday best laces and fine fabrics. Thankfully times have moved on and we now no longer have to stand over boiling cauldrons and deal with the harsh caustic soda (lye) making that burnt their hands without access to gloves and protective gear. They’ve left a legacy. The bile I use is sourced from sadly necessary hunting culls on game farms to reduce antelope numbers in order to sustain food sources for the remaining animals relative to the size of the property.
