I love this thing.If you’re in the stage of your life where you’re renting, this is the only option unless you’re lucky enough to have a tall enough outdoor railing, and it’s arguably better than that.The only other ways to really do v-dips, also known as “gironda dips”, is to have that 90 degree bar, and those exist in only a few gyms, as attachments for power racks in another price range, or require serious DIY skills.And, if you lack that much space, this is still arguably better as it also functions as a normal flat bench and has anchor points for resistance bands, which it comes with 1 of, a pair of handles and a pair of leg straps ( storage bag and carabiners).All the metal components appear to be steel, nicely-welded and is held together by interlocking 3 parts – the top V-section is one continuous piece that locks onto the top, of the central part and the lower foot is one continuous piece that locks onto the bottom. There are pieces that further secure them together with quick release pins as well as the bench surface (which came to me shipped in a second package) that adds weight to the back and further stabilizes it, also held in place with pins. The tubing is fairly large in diameter and it feels like a good balance of stability while maintaining storability.This thing is engineered and designed super well, way better than most other products I’ve bought recently. It’s not too good for the price, but it’s not a piece of junk. Every dollar that goes into it feels worthwhile, and I’ve seen the inventor of it talk on video – this piece of equipment is his labor of love and it’s frankly inspiring.There are only 3 complaints I have – 1 is that the rings for the pins and support pieces rattle. I quieted it with some masking tape, but it’s pretty annoying in the stages where you’re still getting used to doing the dips. The 2nd is that the finish in some places – paint on one of the parts had some residue rubbing off til I gave it a thorough scrub, and the rubber grips on the v-dip bars had a pretty harsh chemical odor that gets on your hands, but it’s gotten better over time. The other complaint is that it’s made in china – I understand why it had to be done – I saw the interview he gave and the engineering costs on this were huge which meant cutting in other spots – but it’s still regrettable. The quality does look like he went for the upper end of chinese manufacture, but I still hope he can move to having it moved to at least Taiwan or Mexico in the future, if not USA.All that said, if you have the space and money or skill to put up a dedicated custom-welded gironda bar, go for it. If you need something you can pack into a closet or take with you when you move, or can’t affix anything to your landlord’s walls, this is the thing, the only thing, that lets you do this exercise. And it allows much more if you add more bands and/or dumbbells. It’s also pretty good as an option if you’re just starting out, since it isn’t a nightmare to set up and if you want to sell it later it can be removed by 1 person.Well done. 5 stars.
